Verse of the week

Verse: ‘The people of this age marry and are given in marriage. But those who are considered worthy of taking part in the age to come and in the resurrection from the dead will benign marry nor be given in marriage, and they can no longer die; for they are like the angels. They are God’s children, since they are children of the resurrection.’

Luke 20:34-36

Prayer of the week

For today: Grant, I Lord, that we may see in you the fulfilment of all our need, and may turn from every false satisfaction to feed on the true and living bread that you have given us in Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

For ourselves – please contact us to subscribe to our eNews (email news) for these personal prayer points

Our community, For a hunger for the grace of God to be poured out upon our area and for our witness as a church to be clear.

Our mission, Lord Jesus, your followers are the most persecuted minority group in the world today. We ask for organisations supporting our persecuted sisters and brothers to be effective, wise and compassionate with those who stumble. Also give us the courage of our convictions to maintain our witness under fire.

Our world, Father, we lift to you our workplaces and ask for the wisdom to be just and profitable; proactive and wise; competitive yet humble enough to learn how to contribute well to this world for unless you build, our work is for nothing.

Teaching

Luke 20: 27-47 | Life & Marriage – Natural & Supernatural

Life and Marriage in Australia

– Over value marriage

– Under value marriage

Marriage is a gift for a time

Marriage is not the future, the resurrection is

– Exodus 3

– Psalm 110

Honour marriage but hold it lightly

– 1 Corinthians 7 & 13

For further thought

Q: Through most of history marriage has been about the nurturing and passing on of the gift of life. How has our understanding of marriage changed for us in Australia today?

Q: In Jesus teaching, why has the connection between marriage and life been changed?

Q: Married people need to think of someone else in relation to their actions, otherwise their marriage will fail. How can single people counter the risk of becoming self-absorbed? How can married people encourage each other to relate to God and not take their relationship for granted?

Q: How can the married assist single people and single people assist those in relationships to continue well in their walk with Christ – to pursue holiness?

Q: Why doesn’t marriage or singleness define who we are before God?
